Choosing the perfect wedding venue in Oxfordshire or the Cotswolds is one of the most exciting parts of planning your big day.
From breathtaking barns and elegant manor houses to romantic gardens and charming countryside estates, the options are endless. With so many beautiful spaces to explore, where do you begin? Don’t worry—I’m here to help make your wedding planning journey fun, enjoyable, and full of inspiration!
I’m an Oxfordshire-based wedding photographer, and I’ve captured weddings all over the UK—from the stunning Lake District to the stylish streets of London and everywhere in between. While every wedding venue has its own unique charm, the venues here in Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds truly shine.
This page highlights just a handful of the gorgeous local venues I’ve had the pleasure of photographing: Merriscourt, Caswell House, Tythe Barn, Stratton Court Barn, Cogges Manor Farm, Worton Hall, Witney Lakes Resort. I’ll be adding more over time, so this guide will continue to grow!
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds on the Oxfordshire‑Gloucestershire border, Merriscourt is the kind of wedding venue that photographers and couples alike fall in love with. It’s made up of three interlinked Cotswold stone barns surrounded by over 500 acres of rolling countryside — think panoramic views, wide lawns and a feeling of real exclusivity as soon as you arrive.
From a photographer’s perspective, Merriscourt is a dream. The whole venue flows so well across a wedding day, from the ceremony through to the reception and evening celebrations. Couples can choose to say their vows in The Stone Barn, a licensed space with high beamed ceilings and beautiful Cotswold stone floors that create an instant sense of occasion. There’s also the option for outdoor ceremonies on the lawn if you’re imagining a summer celebration with countryside views.
After the ceremony, guests can mingle in The Gallery, a lovely space adorned with artwork that opens out onto both the courtyard and wedding lawn — perfect for drinks, canapés and those early candid photos. From there, you flow seamlessly into The White Barn for your wedding breakfast. With its bright, lofty interior and elegant blank‑canvas feel, it’s a wonderfully flexible space for whatever table layouts or décor you’re dreaming of.
One of the things that truly sets Merriscourt apart is the accommodation. With six exclusive properties on‑site that can sleep up to around 35 guests, it’s possible to create a whole weekend wedding vibe without having to worry about taxis or logistics. Guests love having that chance to relax together in the beautiful surroundings before and after the big day.
Whether you’re drawn to the honey‑stone barns, the lawns framed by distant hills, or the versatility that comes from having a venue with character and practical flow, Merriscourt delivers again and again. It’s one of those Oxfordshire wedding venues that looks gorgeous come rain or shine — and offers photographers a wealth of light, landscape and candid moments to capture across the day.
The team at Merriscourt are, without a doubt, some of the friendliest and most welcoming I’ve encountered. From planning to the day itself, they make everything feel effortless, with careful attention to detail that ensures your wedding is uniquely yours. Catering is provided in‑house by a Michelin‑trained chef, and the day flows smoothly from start to finish.

After photographing many weddings at Caswell House over the years, it’s easy to see why it remains one of the most loved wedding venues in the Cotswolds. Set within 300 acres of rolling countryside, the grounds offer an incredible variety of backdrops, all within a beautifully considered, private setting.
As a wedding photographer, I naturally look at venues a little differently. While couples are thinking about guest experience, food and drink, flow of the day, accommodation and that all-important feeling of knowing it’s “the one”, I’m paying close attention to light, space, and how everything works together on a wedding day.
Caswell House is exceptional for light. The way it moves through the courtyards, gardens and barns across the day means there are always flattering, natural spots for portraits, whatever the season. And when I talk about light, I really mean how it falls on you, helping create images that feel relaxed, natural and timeless.
The setting itself offers endless photographic variety without ever needing to leave the venue. From the moat and elegant walled gardens (still one of my favourite spaces for quiet portraits), to the landscaped courtyards, bridges, pond, woodland and open countryside, everything is close by and flows beautifully. Because Caswell House is exclusively yours for the day, there’s also a sense of calm and privacy that makes a huge difference to how relaxed couples feel in front of the camera.
For ceremonies, the barns provide a warm, romantic indoor setting that works just as well on a bright summer’s day as it does in winter. In the warmer months, the outdoor ceremony beneath the historic Loggia is a standout feature, offering a timeless and elegant place to exchange vows. Caswell House is a venue I know well and always enjoy returning to. It’s thoughtfully run, incredibly photogenic, and supported by a welcoming, professional team who understand how to make a wedding day run smoothly.

The Tythe Barn is one of those venues that quietly gets everything right. From the moment you arrive, there’s a sense of ease and style that carries through the entire space. It’s relaxed without feeling casual, and thoughtfully designed without losing its character.
What really stands out to me as a wedding photographer is how well the traditional, historic elements sit alongside more modern touches. It’s a versatile venue that works beautifully for a wide range of wedding styles, from elegant and understated to something a little more contemporary.
The flow of the spaces feels natural, and there’s a warmth to the setting that makes people instantly feel comfortable, which always shows in the photos.
Your venue choice shapes so much of how your day looks and feels. Beyond the practicalities, it’s about atmosphere. The Tythe Barn has a calm, welcoming energy that makes it easy to imagine spending the whole day there, from morning preparations through to the evening celebrations. It’s the kind of place where guests settle in quickly and the day unfolds naturally.
Shepherd's Hut
One of my favourite hidden features of the venue is the Shepherd’s Hut, tucked away in a quiet corner of the grounds. It’s a beautifully considered space and works perfectly as a honeymoon suite or somewhere to take a quiet moment away together. Despite its modest size, it’s finished to a very high standard, with thoughtful details throughout. From the wood-burning stove and underfloor heating to the en-suite bathroom, fitted kitchen and comfortable double bed, everything has clearly been designed with comfort and quality in mind. There are lovely practical touches too, including a dedicated place to hang a wedding dress or suit, which couples always appreciate.
The grounds themselves offer plenty of opportunities for relaxed, natural portraits, from tree-lined paths to quieter corners that feel tucked away from the rest of the day. It’s a venue that gives you variety without needing to move far, which makes the timeline feel unhurried and enjoyable.
The Tythe Barn is run by a friendly, professional team who create a genuinely welcoming experience, and it’s a venue I always enjoy photographing weddings at.

Stratton Court Barn is a venue I’ve come to know well, and it’s easy to understand why it’s such a popular choice for couples getting married in North Oxfordshire. The approach alone sets the tone, with a tree-lined drive opening out into wide countryside before revealing the sheltered courtyard and beautifully restored barns with their large glass doors. It’s spacious without feeling exposed, and welcoming without losing that sense of occasion.
As a wedding photographer, I’m always paying attention to how a venue feels across a full day, not just on first arrival. Stratton Court Barn strikes a lovely balance between openness and intimacy, which makes it a joy to photograph. The light moves beautifully through the spaces, and there’s a natural flow between ceremony, drinks reception and evening celebrations.
Choosing your wedding venue is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make, and while a venue can look stunning at first glance, it’s always worth looking a little deeper. I often encourage couples to read reviews, revisit at different times of day, and picture how their wedding will actually unfold. Stratton Court Barn is one of those venues that stands up to that test. Set within around 50 acres of private Oxfordshire countryside, it offers both privacy and variety, with consistently excellent feedback from couples who’ve celebrated there.
Having photographed weddings here on several occasions, I can say with confidence that there’s no shortage of photo opportunities. Woodland paths, flower gardens, rustic stone buildings, wood-fronted barns and the central courtyard all provide beautiful backdrops throughout the day. As the evening draws in, the surrounding countryside often delivers a gorgeous sunset over the fields, which is always worth stepping out for if timings allow.
The venue is supported by a dedicated in-house wedding coordinator, which makes a huge difference to how smoothly the day runs. That calm, well-organised approach allows couples to relax and enjoy their wedding, and it shows in the photographs.

Cogges Manor Farm is a venue I truly hold dear, not just because it’s a beautifully rustic wedding location, but also because my own children spent countless hours exploring, running, and discovering when they were little bundles of energy. Generations of local children have enjoyed the farm’s animals and learning spaces, and that sense of life and joy carries through when you celebrate your wedding here. On your special day, you might find yourself sharing your first dance with chickens strutting nearby, stroking a goat, or feeding a pig — just one of the many charming touches that make Cogges so magical.
Choosing a wedding venue is such a personal decision, and Cogges Manor Farm offers a blank canvas to make your day exactly how you want it.
Whether you prefer to DIY to your heart’s content or bring in professional suppliers to craft your dream barn wedding, this venue is flexible, welcoming, and full of opportunities to make it truly yours.
With over 1000 years of history, Cogges Manor Farm feels almost otherworldly, steeped in stories that span from a mention in the Domesday Book of 1086 (its first owner, Wadard, even appears on the Bayeux Tapestry) to modern appearances on Downton Abbey. On your wedding day, you’re stepping into history while creating memories that are completely your own. Beyond its heritage, Cogges plays a meaningful role in the local community as a self-funded charity, which means your wedding directly supports its upkeep — something that makes celebrating here feel even more special.
The venue offers an intimate and relaxed experience, with only a limited number of weddings each year and just one per weekend, so you have the space and time to enjoy your day exactly as you envision it. From canapés on the lawn, a barbecue or hog roast, fire pits, food vans, games, music, and beautiful rural backdrops for your photos, everything flows naturally across the grounds.
After 5pm, the barns and wider site are exclusively yours, and there’s plenty of accommodation nearby — just a five-minute stroll across the river meadows from Witney.
Cogges Manor Farm is a wonderfully joyful and unique venue. It’s a place where every wedding feels personal, relaxed, and completely memorable. If you’d like to book a viewing, the friendly team can be reached on 01993 772602, via email at ops@cogges.org.uk, or at www.cogges.org.uk.
I do love a barn with a difference, and Worton Hall certainly delivers. Steeped in history — including a mention in the 1086 Domesday Book and archaeological finds dating back to the Iron Age — it combines medieval character with modern, thoughtfully designed spaces. It’s a venue that feels timeless, yet works beautifully for a contemporary wedding.
Couples often tell me that guest experience is just as important to them as the ceremony itself, and rightly so. First impressions matter, and a venue that considers how you and your guests feel from the moment you arrive usually carries that care throughout the day. For me, a tree-lined driveway always signals that something special awaits, and Worton Hall’s sun-dappled approach sets the tone perfectly.
As you reach the main courtyard, the barn comes into view, impressive in scale with arrow-slit windows and soaring double-height doors. From here, it’s easy to see why Worton Hall works so well as a wedding venue: it’s grand without feeling intimidating, full of character, and offers plenty of space for both intimate moments and larger celebrations. And that’s just the start — there’s so much more waiting to be discovered inside and around the grounds.
On the edge of the Cotswolds and just a short drive from Oxford, Worton Hall sits in the historic hamlet of Worton. The old grain barn was completely rebuilt in 2014 to create the striking yellow-stoned reception hall, offering flexible seating and a beautifully light-filled space for your celebrations.
But while you can find all the technical details on their website, I’m here to tell you about the feels — and the feels are wonderful. From the sweeping lawns and fruit-filled orchard to the calming lake with its cute little bridge and tranquil poolside, every corner of Worton Hall is made for memorable wedding photography. Fig trees, weeping willows, and the enchanting Cotswold garden with views over the pond create dreamy backdrops, and if you choose to say your vows under the wooden pagoda, the elegant walk from the Farmhouse ensures you have space and comfort for bridal prep and your honeymoon suite.
The gardens themselves are pure magic, offering intimate, photogenic spots for your ceremony and portraits alike. And when your day winds down, the luxury on-site accommodation means you can relax and soak up the atmosphere with family and friends.
Worton Hall combines elegance, history, and modern convenience, providing an abundance of stunning photo opportunities without you needing to lift a finger. As a wedding photographer, I can confidently say it’s a venue that looks incredible at every angle, whether you’re capturing wide shots of the gardens or close, intimate moments under the trees.

With a clue in the name, Witney Lakes Resort is exactly what it says on the tin — a stunning wedding venue and golf course resort, set among rolling greens, woodland, and a beautiful lake. The scenery is elegant, tranquil, and endlessly photogenic, providing a jaw-dropping backdrop for your wedding photos.
If you’re dreaming of a venue with open views, a golf course setting like this can exceed expectations. The manicured lawns, carefully positioned lakes, and landscaped woodland create a beautifully organised, timeless feel that works perfectly in any season and any weather.
As a wedding photographer, I can confidently say the quality of Witney Lakes is apparent from the moment you arrive. The drive up to the clubhouse sets the tone, and every corner of the resort offers incredible opportunities for natural, relaxed portraits as well as wider, editorial-style shots. It’s easy to see why couples and photographers alike love it.
Tucked away in the heart of Witney, Witney Lakes Resort is a hidden gem for anyone planning an Oxfordshire wedding, combining professional, welcoming service with picture-perfect surroundings.
It’s no secret among wedding photographers that a venue with a lake is a huge bonus. Lakes give us reflections to play with, multiple scenic angles, and, if we’re lucky, a charming bridge — all perfect for romantic portraits. Witney Lakes doesn’t disappoint. The bridge is sweet, the rolling golf course lawns behind it create a stunning backdrop, and yes, the resident fish occasionally pop up to say hello — always a fun surprise!
Beyond its beautiful scenery and golf course, Witney Lakes also offers a health and beauty spa, fitness centre, and luxury swimming pool. Some facilities are limited to members, so it’s worth enquiring in advance if you’d like to take full advantage of the resort on your wedding day.
One of the many reasons couples love Witney Lakes is its location. Nestled just outside Witney and close to the A40, it’s easy for guests to reach from any direction, with plenty of parking. On a personal note, it’s also my next-door neighbour! Being able to see the golf course while I edit wedding photos means I’m always on time — and it’s a joy to work in such a stunning environment with such welcoming staff.
The team at Witney Lakes Resort are professional, attentive, and genuinely friendly, creating a sense of calm and exclusivity for your wedding day. With beautiful grounds, flexible spaces, and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s a top-notch Oxfordshire wedding venue that I can highly recommend as a photographer.
